#themeet140 tweetup
Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 4:44PM #themeet140 tweetup is a very pleasant, random crowd, gathering every so often in London, Cheltenham, Glasgow ... Follow us @themeet140
#themeet140 was unwittingly thrown together by @chrish10 and @markofrespect after meeting at media140 and Likeminds events. We felt that despite our passion for social media, and Twitter especially, it was no alternative to getting interesting people together over food and drinks. So, we put it out there seeking a crowd with a shared interest.
Our first #themeet140 was held at the fantastic Tibits in London on the 21st April where over 20 of us had a great laugh: we decided to put it on again when we were in the same place together, or when the time felt right.
No agenda, just come to see old friends and make new, discuss social media or just pure banter. It is the social part of social media and we love a diverse crowd.
Oh, just one thing, leave the business cards at home.
Any questions, just ask Mark @markofrespect or Chris @chrish10

Was a really good evening last time. The venue foood was scrumptious. Great conversation with Good people. I wish I'd got around to talking to everyone. I can't wait 'til the next one so I can pick up where we left off
Great location.
Great conversation.
Old friends.
New friends.
Here's to it's proliferation.
The first London event was a spectacular success. Great company, great wine and a lot of fun and frolics. Superb effort from Mark and Chris. See you all at the next one on Thursday!
What's better than great conversation in a nice location and no hidden agendas or sales pitches. THEmeet140 is about the people. If you want to meet an avatar and extend some of those conversations out of 140 characters then its the perfect place to be.
There are no strangers just new friendships to be made.
One of my favourite nights on 2010.
After spending so much time chatting virtually to many of these guys, it was excellent meeting them 'for real' finally at #themeet140.
For me, it summed up exactly what social media is all about: being around great people.
This event pretty much sums up all that's good with social media for me. Yes we can all meet and chat online, but it's in real life that the good stuff happens. Good people. Good conversation. Good times.
First #themeet140 for me in Glasgow next Wednesday. Looking forward to putting faces to a few Twitter avatars.
BTW, Mark told me the first round was on him, so get there early!
What Allan said.
It will be good to finally meet all the people who have been involved in helping Mark shape Scotland140.
It's a great gathering. Certified bullshit-free. See you there soon :)
Looking forward to popping my #themeet140 cherry next week. Couldn't happen with a nicer bunch of people.
Reading the above comments I was surprised to find out that there was food available. I guess I was too deep in conversation to pay attention to such insignificant extras like food ordering;)
I just simply love when after so many Twitter conversations I finally meet the people behind all those thoughts, ideas, links and chats.
I enjoy recognising faces, hearing their voices, accents, laughter; seeing the gestures of all of those I have spent so much time engaging online staring on a grainy photo or some mad avatar. Somehow a face to face meeting makes it real.
For me Twitter is never the same following a real life meeting.
Fab night last night at The Landsdowne. Lovely people and excellent chat.
It was good fun to put faces to avatars. However, wasn't sure whether to introduce myself as Jane or madfootiebabe / JEB_BBLaw!
Had to leave far too early for my liking but await the date of the next #themeet140 with interest.
Thanks again.
Attended the Glasgow event last night. It's great to meet in person people you follow on Twitter. I love the "oh, so you are ......". Great crowd and great idea.
Had a great time last night at the Lansdowne - fab to chat to people and only sorry to have not got the chance to chat to everyone.
Looking forward to the next one.
Clare
Last night at the Landsdowne was brilliant. I love the whole IRL approach to meeting new friends who are actually old friends you met on line months/years ago.
As the wonderful @chrish10 said:"It's putting the social into social media,"
Can't wait for @Scotland140 event in June when I can hopefully meet all the others I didn't get round to talking to last night.
Thanks to Mark and Chris for organising. When's the next one?
real people - real conversations - common goal. and no bullshit. loved the informal approach, a real life twitter. Well done to everyone who attended and made it a fantastic night. Looking forward to the BIG night on the 17th June. moviecom.tv & 29studios will filming the event, cant wait guys...
Great night at a lovely venue in the Landsdowne Bar. Food and service fab! I've still to use my free meal voucher i won at the GTwestival in March!
Having met only a handful of people I follow on Twitter I love that at themeetup140 I can meet new people that i've tweeted for a while, or have only stared to tweet with, as well as meeting totally new people. It was like a game of guess the twitter name with a few anonymous people though. The informality and banter of this great group of people make my journey from Stirling worth every minute.
Huge thank you to Mark and Chris for organising, already look forward to the next one.
Catching up with old friends, meeting friends. The meetup140 is where it's at!
Ange :)
